Not Much of a Crime - $16.95
Political intrigue with a bit a humor, August 30, 2010
By Mike Tibbs (Glen Carbon, IL))
This review is from: Not Much of a Crime (Kindle Edition) I must say I enjoyed the read, The behind the scenes political posturing in a corrupt system was a theme that could probably be set in many small communities around America and a few larger ones. I was going to give this book 4 stars for the storyline and character development but Mr. Johnson threw a small twist in later in the book that I found humorous and elevated my review to 5 stars. The authors imagination is evident in the names he chooses for some characters and I found them appropriate and funny. The theme however of this work is not humorous at all and has all the elements of a corrupt politcal system we all hope never touches our community. Thank you Mr. Johnson for an entertaining read.

Very much a good read, May 31, 2010

This review is from: Not Much of a Crime (Paperback) Murder, political corruption, kidnapping, plot twists, what's not to love. The description of the book may make one wonder if reading it is worth it. I found the book strangely compelling. It's a political thriller with murder and mayhem. It neatly skewers small town political avarice in a way to make one ask "Has the author lived in MY town?" It is indeed well written. The characters are well drawn and the plot lines plausible, yet VERY different. I can't say I've read a book like it, and frankly, I can't even say exactly WHY I enjoyed it so much, but I did.

Review of Not Much Of A Crime, October 18, 2009
By Jarrel R. Jackson (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands)
This review is from: Not Much of a Crime (Paperback) NOT MUCH OF A CRIME is an extremely well written book, featuring Allison King an attractive lady with a very shady past. Early in her career as porn star Amy Goodlove, she had capitalized on her popularity and started a small studio producing adult movies. The success and expansion of the studio had made her wealthy by her early thirties, and she retired to Charleston, Nevada seeking peace and quiet.
Although a newcomer to Charleston, Allison spoke out at a town hall meeting against closing the legal brothels. Highly upset by this challenge to his political machine, the local power broker a former State Senator initiated a campaign of harassment by vandalizing her home. When Allison fought back by running for town counsel the tactics accelerated to murder, extortion and kidnapping. Not knowing who was friend or foe was a nerve wracking handicap. This book caused me to loose a lot of sleep because I couldn't put it down. J.R.Jackson, Author of Reilley's Sting

Comedy as well as crime as retired porn star cleans up a corrupt town, October 1, 2009
By Phillip I. Good (Huntington Beach CA)
This review is from: Not Much of a Crime (Kindle Edition)
On the outskirts of the small Nevada town were a number of ranches designed to service bulls of the human species. But the real corruption lay in the town itself where not much got done without the approval of a certain retired State Senator. The townfolks had contributed money for years toward a hospital which never got built. They'd suffered one law for the rich and one for the poor. And only one person, a retired porn star, seemed to have the courage to bring change.
There's no mystery here--despite the book's title--but there's plenty of tension as the porn-star heroine finds her intentions thwarted by the church-going people she'd hoped to help and her efforts aided from several unexpected sources.
